Cancun...A Drive By

After Chichen itza, we took a four hour bus ride to Cancun. It would have taken us an hour on the first class bus, but we missed that one so were treated to an extra long journey where the driver stopped at several houses, knocked on a few doors and even visited a few 'garden centres'! It was very scenic, we passed through lots of small Mayan villages on the way. The journey took so long that I had to get the bus to stop for me, so that I could go for a wee (international sign language for I may wet myself worked a treat).

The driver knocked at this door, no one was home!

We stopped at several houses selling an array of tropical plants, I recognised lots of my house plants!

When we arrived in ciudad Cancun it was a sprawling mass of activity. We made a couple of taxi journeys around a one way system to find a hotel. After this we felt as though we had seen the city! Its mad to think that Cancun has only existed since the 1970's. It was created by tourism planners to replocate the success of Acapulco. We decided to get a city bus to take a look at the tourism area 'Zona Hotelera'. This was quite a journey, this area is massive. We joined a bus with service workers for the area, who hopped on and off at the very fast and busy mainroad that the lonely planet advises you not to dawdle on, because you are likely to get mown over. We wizzed by some of the most enormous hotels we had ever seen. We hopped off the bus just passed the Hilton, where there weren't any hotels.

Don't lean on the rail behind you, its broken - no really! LMHO.

Oh hi! Were on holiday!

The beaches were fantastic.

We spent a couple of days in Cancun, did our washing, and then left for Isla Mujeres.

Cheers Rob.

We're trying to get as much in as we can so we don't forget it all. Have burn't a couple of cd's and sent them home so far, but that's reminded me we seriosly need to do it again.

Loving your pics on facebook, some really stunning ones there. My peg leg comes off this week, so we're planning on doing some reef snorkeling trips now we're up here on the caribbean coast. Clair bought us an underwater case for the little canon beasty and I can't wait to have a go with that. Hopefully be some piccys up soon.

Hope all is good with you and family.
