Oh hi! After the canoe tour, a cold shower, a bite count, chillax and then some banana cake at the bakery, we were ready to make the most of our day pass to the park and hire Richard's canoe. It cost us a pound each for the latter part of the afternoon, he seemed fine with this. It was the canoe that we had been out with him on the morning guided tour. Ideal.
Our first test was to paddle to the park entrance to hand in our pass, Wiji opted to get out while I held the canoe still. One of those moments where laughing isn't really appropriate, but I did want to be sensible, in case Richard was watching.
God yeah! And we're off! Wiji seemed miles away from me in the canoe, well it was massive! Tortugero in the distance. Row, row, fast as you can!
So different today in the sunlight the reflections were spectacular!
Sooo calm and tranquil.
Signposting the routes.
We got nice and close to this bare throated tiger heron. It was having a preen, and not interested in us at all.
The jungle banks could be eerily quiet at times. I found myself holding my breath as we looked for wildlife.
Yeah, I am loving it! It seemed totally mad to be out on the river on our own.
Wiji brought Barry with him, it was hot.
The blood tree and refection.
By this point it ws 5:30 ish so we headed back, not wanting to be too far away before it got dark. It had been so brilliant paddling about on our own, so we decided to go out again tomorrow!
Back in the village, getting some beers in time to watch the football, it seemed as though all the ghost crabs were out in the early evening. Finally I got to see some. The blue colour and orange mouth parts finally visible.
